The Safety of the Urban Environment and Positive Human Behaviors

Abstract:
Numerous studies have drawn the attention of researchers and policymakers to the concept of a suitable residential environment for human life, as it plays a crucial role in achieving urban development and offering architectural, structural, and planning solutions. The main objective of these efforts is to create a livable, appropriate environment for residents—especially in this era where modern technology dominates all aspects of progress and has had a clear impact on urban development.
In Libya, a country currently undergoing urban and economic development and grappling with housing challenges, various forms of negative human behavior have impacted the urban environment. These include widespread informal settlements within urban planning zones, largely due to factors such as delays in the study and approval of third-generation master plans, as well as shortcomings in enforcing urban planning and regulatory laws—particularly during this critical phase of urban expansion in many Libyan cities.
Therefore, it becomes essential to clarify the influence of the built environment and architectural structures on shaping the behaviors of residents. Such clarification contributes to addressing residential environmental problems in Libyan urban plans and promotes the protection of the architectural and urban landscape from deterioration or distortion. It also encourages the creation of aesthetic values, transforming the environment into a symbol of human presence and progress in the modern era—a reflection of the people's identity, history, and beliefs.
This research paper highlights the impact of residential environments and well-designed architectural structures in shaping and promoting positive individual behaviors, allowing residents to interact with their surroundings in a way that reflects dignity and respect for the human condition.
