Developing the Performance of Faculty Members in Light of Total Quality Standards: A Case Study of the University of Western Mountain

Abstract
The total quality of higher education institutions depends on the quality of their faculty members, who are the key drivers of the quality of programs and educational activities, regardless of their objectives. The presence of distinguished faculty members, effective administration, and good infrastructure positively reflects on the internal and external efficiency of academic programs. Therefore, developing the capabilities of faculty members in Libyan universities has become a necessity imposed by the changes and challenges of the times. Despite this fact, the process of development and the mechanisms for its implementation in Libyan universities still lack in-depth research and field studies. Hence, the importance of this study, which aims to investigate the process of developing faculty performance in Libyan universities in light of total quality standards, with a case study of the University of Western Mountain.
To achieve this goal, the study adopted a mixed-methods approach, including:
- An in-depth literature review of previous related studies to provide a broader perspective and a more realistic framework for the concept of quality in Libyan universities and the challenges of its implementation.
- A qualitative approach using open interviews to explore the actual performance of faculty members and the extent to which total quality standards have been applied to develop their capabilities at the University of Western Mountain as a case study.
- A quantitative approach using questionnaires to monitor and analyze the actual performance of faculty members at the University of Western Mountain.
The main findings of the study included:
- The formulation of programs aimed at developing the capabilities of faculty members in Libyan universities, working to improve their performance and enhance their skills in teaching, scientific research, community service, administration, leadership, and personal skills, all of which contribute to achieving the strategic goals of development at the university.
