Abstract

The study aimed to assess the marketing efficiency of honey production in the municipalities of southern Libya during the 2023–2024 production season. It employed both descriptive and quantitative economic analysis based on primary data collected to achieve the objectives of the study. The results showed that fixed costs accounted for 87.76% of the total production costs, while variable costs represented 12.24% during the study period. The average net return from honey production was 68.7 Libyan dinars per hive, whereas the average production cost reached 109.6 Libyan dinars per hive. The findings also indicated that the relative profitability of honey production was approximately 19.5%, while the return on the invested dinar (i.e., the return generated from each Libyan dinar spent on honey production) was about 0.63 Libyan dinars during the 2023–2024 season. Based on these findings, the researchers recommended strengthening support for beekeepers' associations in the region and organizing training programs aimed at diversifying honey products and improving their quality. They also emphasized the importance of supporting honey exports and encouraging participation in local and international exhibitions to promote honey production in southern Libya. Furthermore, the study recommended supporting local markets by providing suitable transportation for beekeepers, thereby improving the marketing efficiency of their products and enhancing their access to markets.
